Recently released security camera footage captured Chicago police chasing a carjacking suspect on foot along a busy stretch of road earlier this week.
The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. Monday on DuSable Lake Shore Drive, WLS-TV reports. Two Chicago police officers had boxed-in a car that had been reported stolen and was allegedly driven by the suspect.
In the video, the suspect is seen getting out of the car and begins fleeing on foot after the officers exited their cruiser. The chase weaves between vehicles stopped in traffic, and the suspect then crosses across the roadway to the Northwestern University campus to try to escape.
Eventually, the suspect was apprehended in the basement of a university medical school building. While the suspect was on the loose, the university was placed in lockdown.
According to police, the suspect carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint. Charges against the man were pending.
